Ontario's Top 30 Women Wrestlers of 2009

The women of Ontario indy wrestling thrill fans with their skills, athleticism and beauty. Women's matches are always greeted with cheers and the competitors battle with just as much intensity and drive as their male counterparts... and sometimes against them in intergender matches. It's a thriving scene but we here at OWIE felt the women responsible weren't getting the recognition and accolades they deserve. When awards are handed out the majority of them are given to men, even if the women are open for consideration there just aren't enough of them to make the cut against the sheer number of male wrestlers. Women make up just 10% of the pro wrestlers in Ontario. Usually they are left to a single category - Female Wrestler of the Year - or, when they are ranked the listings are based more on opinion than actual accomplishments. It's never easy to rank pro wrestlers (as anyone who's tried can tell you) and hardly ever does a ranking truly reflect the actual local scene and the accomplishments of those busting their asses in the ring. So, when the OWIE team decided to begin a yearly ranking of the women of Ontario wrestling we first had to determine the criteria by which each woman would be judged.

OWIE senior editor Gordo, the wizard of id, assembled a small panel of experts and together they determined first what the ranking criteria would be and when that (heated) discussion was concluded, they began examining each and every woman wrestler who competed in Ontario in the year 2009. After much discussion, argument and a gazillion Tim Hortons coffee they finally settled on this, the first ever OWIE Top 30 - a ranking of the top 30 women wrestlers in Ontario. Not everyone made the list and there's sure to be disagreement, surprise and maybe even outrage at our resulting list but we're confident that even if we didn't get it perfect, we came pretty damn close to it. After almost 100 hours of work on this project we're happy with the result. Whether YOU are or not remains to be seen but like it or not, at least these rankings are here for you to peruse, discuss and most of all... to remember, record, honor and exult the incredible dedicated women who sacrifice so much to bring us joy by performing in wrestling rings across Ontario.

This ranking is for the time period Jan 01 2009 - Dec 31 2009.
Yes, we know some things have changed since the end of the ranking period and the time this article was posted- titles, who's working where (or at all) and other things but all facts listed are, to the best of our knowledge, correct for the ranking period (2009)

Ranking Criteria
A number of factors were taken into consideration when deciding these rankings. While inherent skill and ability was an important factor, more credence was placed on things like win/loss records, number of appearances and what promotions those appearances took place in... Some feds are simply more high profile than others. Quality of opposition was also a major factor.

This system for determining ranking order is why some very talented wrestlers are lower on the list than others who admittedly may not be as experienced or skilled but... we believe these rankings accurately portray the 2009 Ontario women's wrestling scene far better than a list where the wrestlers were ranked with career achievements or recognized skill levels being the primary factor. Just because someone has worldwide experience and multiple titles on their resume they shouldn't be automatically ranked high on the list just because they happened to wrestle in Ontario once or twice last year. They probably made the list but their placement will more accurately show where they fit or how they impacted the overall scene.

Here then is the 2009 OWIE Top 30 - Ranking Ontario's Top 30 Women Wrestlers of 2009

1: CHERRY BOMB

Cherry Bomb received the OIW Award for 2009 Female Wrestler of the Year and with good reason. Coming off a career threatening neck injury suffered in 2007 and very little action in 2008, Cherry rebounded in 2009 to deliver her best year to date, dominating the Ontario scene... defeated rookie standout PJ Tyler in PWX and GCW to start the year strong... Dropped a hard fought decision to TNA Knockout Roxxi in St Thomas in March... Lost to PJ Tyler at "Midland Mania" for FFW... Defeated long time rival Miss Danyah at Stranglehold Wrestling's "Shit Happens" in Oshawa June 12th. The first ever Women's Strap on a Pole Match... Doesn't care much for the fans of St Thomas, often adopting a cocky attitude and willingness to break the rules quicker than in other cities... Fans there were happy to see her drop a match by count-out to an unknown woman after making an open challenge. Cherry made the challenge after PWX Champion Holly Hilton failed to show for her title defense... Was victorious over She Nay Nay and Jennifer Blake in a high profile 3-Way Match at AWF's Summertime Bruise event... Dropped a decision to Miss Danyah August 22 in Keswick but rebounded the next day to defeat male wrestler "The Hacker" Scotty O'Shea in a very hard hitting bout many fans called "the best intergender match ever."... Finally got a shot at Holly Hilton in September in Orono, and lost... Kept her intergender winning record intact with a victory over "Midnight Special" RJ City in an I Quit Match at BLOODSTOCK 2 in Toronto... In Napanee in October, got her revenge on the mystery woman who beat her by count-out in St Thomas - CCW rookie Evilyn... Unsuccessfully challenged for Hilton's PWX title November 7th in St Thomas but won it the next day in Tillsonburg... Finished the year on a strong note with a gritty win over "Anti Diva" Kaitlin Diemond at TWA "Xmas Chaos" in Fort Erie... Cherry also travelled out of province to face Sara Del Rey at the debut Femmes Fatales show in Montreal (Sept 5)

Outlook for 2010:Expect Cherry to defend the PWX (Now CCW) Championship with pride no matter what side of the rules she's on. Will probably try and maintain her intergender undefeated streak... assuming there's any men willing to step in the ring with her after witnessing RJ submit to her Testicular Clamp claw hold. Cherry Bomb is now a target for numerous challengers whether a belt is on the line or not. Now recognized as a proven top tier talent Cherry Bomb has to be considered "the woman to beat" by almost everyone on this list because a win over her in 2010 is bound to bring notice upon the one who can pull it off. (Although to be fair, a win over Cherry by any of the Top 10 could hardly be considered an upset.) Cherry Bomb's #1 ranking came in part because of her winning record over high-level talent. She needs to continue facing the very best Ontario has to offer in 2010 and to keep winning if she is to repeat the #1 spot next year

2: TAYLOR WILDE

As a former TNA Knockout Champion and current holder of the TNA Knockout tag straps with Sarita, Taylor Wilde is one of the most recognizable women on this list. Her international acclaim and status as a TV superstar aren't reason alone for Wilde's high ranking although they were a factor. She competed in Ontario enough, against local and imported talent, and was successful enough that had she worked a little more often or in more promotions, she might well have taken the top spot... Teamed with fellow TNA Knockout Traci Brooks to defeat Xandra Bale & Cat Power (aka Haley Rogers)... Lost in a 3-way also featuring Traci Brooks and Xandra Bale in Brampton; her only Ontario loss of the year... Teamed with former WWE star "Highlander" Robbie MacAllister to defeat Traci Brooks & TNA star Robert Roode in Port Perry... Pinned Haley Rogers at a BCW show in Mount Forest... Tagged with Rogers the next day to defeat Miss Danyah & PJ Tyler in Windsor at BCW's annual Wrestlefest show... Defeated PJ Tyler in Woodstock... Last appearance of the year was for BSE PRO in North Bay where she defeated Haley Rogers and Kelly Couture in a 3-Way at the 2009 Adrenaline Cup

Outlook for 2010: Given her continued success in the thriving TNA Knockouts Division it's likely that the bulk of Taylor's ring time will only be seen by Ontario fans if they watch TV. Wilde has deep roots in Ontario and a positive relationship with "the big 2"... BSE PRO and BCW so fans can expect to see her at some point this year. Taylor will need to at least equal her 2009 appearance record to keep the #2 spot in 2010 rankings.

3: PJ TAYLOR

Just 2 years into the business and PJ Tyler has established herself as one of the top stars in the province... and one of the most active, wrestling 27 times for 7 different promotions. A bit more fortunate than many Ontario rookies in that many of her matches were with established area stars... but deservedly so as PJ amassed an impressive number of wins. Fares better in singles contests than she does in 3-Ways or tags. Flip flops between being a fan favorite or a vile rule breaker depending on the circumstances. Like many women first starting out PJ spent a lot of her first year as a manager or valet but scaled that role down dramatically in 2009 prefering instead to work towards her own career goals in the ring... 2009 started tough for PJ as she dropped a number of matches before hitting her stride... Failed in an attempt to lift the GCW WILD title from Deanna Conda at Ugandan Invasion 2... dropped a hard fought decison to Cherry Bomb in a January 24th PWX bout... Twice came out on the losing end in 3-Ways for the PWX title against defending champ Holly Hilton and "Girl Dynamite" Jennifer Blake... Lost another decision to Cherry Bomb in a high profile match at GCW's Anarchy in Angus 5 on March 6th... Finally got PWX champ Holly Hilton in a singles bout and defeated her soundly; unfortunately for PJ it was at a GCW event in Oshawa so the title wasn't on the line... Seconded by "The Score" Robbie Crawford in a gutsy losing effort against TNA Knockout Awesome Kong in Tillsonburg... Scored a big win over Cherry Bomb April 17th at FFW's Midland Mania... Debuted in BSE PRO in a loss to TNA Knockout Traci Brooks in May... Defeated the always dangerous Haley Rogers on 2 consecutive nights during BCW's Spring Loaded Tour... Headbutted in the face by Jake O'Reilly after jumping into the ring with others to stop a post-match beatdown by Jake on Hayden Avery... Dominated Amy Victory in a PWX St Thomas bout... Got a PWX title shot against Holly Hilton the next night in Tillsonburg but was disqualified when "Canadian Crazyhorse" Michael Elgin tried to interfere on her behalf. Even for wrestling that relationship was short lived as she had no further dealings with him... Continued her dominance of Haley Rogers with a win at GCW Anarchy in Angus 6 in June... Teamed with Miss Danyah in a loss to Taylor Wilde & Haley Rogers at BCW's annual Wrestlefest event in Windsor June 27th... Dropped a singles match to Taylor Wilde the next night in Woodstock... Lost her rematch with Amy Victory in Tillsonburg; maybe because she was distracted by the camel Amy rode to the ring... Raised her record against Haley Rogers to 4-0 with another win September 11th in Embro... Tried again to take the PWX title from Holly Hilton September 12 in Petrolia but came up short... Later that day, tagged with Jake O'Reilly in a losing effort against Haley Rogers & Reza at BCW's Aftershock in Tecumseh... Still looking for that elusive 3-Way Match win in a CCW bout with Holly Hilton and Evilyn but couldn't break the curse... Got involved in the Crazzy Steve / Hayden Avery feud in GCW taking up sides with Hayden. Was abducted and briefly held captive by the lunatic from the Black Hills Sanitarium until rescued by Avery. With Avery's help, defeated Crazzy Steve in an intergender match... Dropped a match to PWX rookie Evilyn after being hit in the head with a chain while attempting a side suplex... Defeated Haley Rogers again on an RSW show in Collingwood October 24th... Their feud continued the following month in BCW when PJ and Rogers clashed during a match between Jake O'Reilly (w/ PJ) and Brad "Freakin" Martin (w/ Rogers)... Fought Miss Danyah to a No Contest in Vaughan November 23rd for CWR when Jake O'Reilly entered the ring and attacked both women. They joined forces to kick his ass and toss him from the ring... Ended the year by capturing the GCW WILD Championship in Oshawa; first defeating Mary Lee Rose, Evilyn and Anna Minoushka in a 4-Way qualifier and then upsetting defending champion Deanna Conda with a roll-up counter to a Boston Crab to claim the title.

Outlook for 2010: Barring injury there's no reason to think PJ Tyler's momentum will cool off any time soon. Look for her to continue her quest for the PWX title now held by Cherry Bomb and for her to defend the GCW WILD belt a lot more than the previous champion did. The more successful PJ becomes the more fans embrace her so it's likely that she will play the fan favorite role more often but don't expect her to give up rule breaking completely... she enjoys it too much. PJ's rise to the upper echelon of Ontario women was swift and impressive. In 2010 she will have to work just as hard, if not harder to keep her spot in the Top 5

4: KRYSTAL BANKS

The reigning PWA Niagara (PWAN) Prima Donna Champion, Krystal Banks is one of the most feared women wrestlers in Southern Ontario and the N.E. United States... Introduced to wrestling by Robin Knightwing first breaking in with the now defunct New Vison Pro promotion... Favors a mat game and employs a hard strike-based offense... throws perhaps the hardest chops on the women's circuit... couldn't care less if fans cheer for her or not... has toned down the ear-splitting shrieks she was known for in her manager days but still very vocal in the ring... could make a truck driver blush... Often aligns with the Sports Generation and other rule breaking factions... Enjoys brutalizing her opponents... Started 2009 as the FSPW and the PWAN Champion... Tagged with Mastiff to brawl to a Double DQ against Ron Falco and Amy Victory at PWAN United We Stand in January... Underestimated rookie Holly Hilton and dropped the FSPW title to her on February 28th in Wellend at No Remorse... Got a small measure of revenge by joining The Davis Brothers to defeat Hilton & The Warriors in a 6 Person Intergender Tag in March... Lost the PWAN title to Amy Victory in a war at Evolution of Anarchy March 28th... Teamed with She Nay Nay to defeat "The One and Only" Jaime D & "Anti Diva" Kaitlin Diemond at TWA's annual Wrestlelusion event in St Catherines... Defeated Jodi D'Milo at a PWAN show in Wellend then again at a PWA event in Port Colborne... Regained the PWAN Championship from Amy Victory August 29th at 3 Faces of Evil in Wellend... Dominated Holly Hilton in a title defense at PWAN Decimation in October... Pinned Jodi D'Milo in a match to fill the vacant PWA Women's Elite Championship November 29th in Hamilton

Outlook for 2010: If the southern Ontario region is a small pond, Krystal Banks is the big fish. If she's not holding one of the regional championships then she's a top contender. Needs to expand her range and venture into new promotions to match up against a more varied array of opponents. With the women's scene expanding and gaining momentum in places further north Banks needs to remain relevant by appearing in those areas or she stands to slip down the list in the 2010 ranking.

5: MISTY HAVEN

Two time winner of the PWA Women's Elite 8 tournament, Misty Haven remains one of the most respected competitors in Ontario... Her feud with 21st Century Fox stands as one of the longest and most intense wars in Canada; ending only when Fox retired... A mat based grappler willing to brawl, Misty possesses lethal kicking power - this despite suffering a serious knee injury that finally required surgery in 2008... equally comfortable as a fan favorite or rule breaker... likes to use a running dropkick to opponents in the Tree of Woe... powerful striker is married to "MVP" Michael Von Payton... Worked a reduced schedule in 2009 but still dangerous... Started 2009 with a loss to international star Sara Del Rey in a hard hitting bout at C*4's Level Up show in Ottawa... Lost an intergender match to MVP in Kitchener February 20th at PWA Holiday Hangover... Upset by Addy Starr at Snowbrawl 2 in Ottawa the next day... Defeated Persephone Vice at Kingston Unleashed 2 in April... Destroyed Sabrina Kyle in May at PWA's annual Wrestle Craze event in Kitchener... Evened the score with Sara Del Rey by pinning her at C*4's Crossing The Line 2 in Ottawa... Defeated Persephone Vice and Addy Starr in a featured 3-Way Match June 19th in Kingston... Crushed Addy Starr at PWA's Father's Day Fight in Guelph... Teamed with Persephone Vice to defeat Portia Perez & Addy Starr for OCW in Gananogue...

Outlook for 2010: Motherhood. Reports are that Misty is pregnant so it's unlikely she will be much of a factor in 2010.

6: TRACI BROOKS

Considered by many wrestling pundits to be the second most famous woman wrestler Ontario has ever produced. (#1 being Trish Stratus) Traci Brooks remains one of the most popular women in Ontario despite spending the bulk of her time competing in the states; primarily for TNA... first in non-wrestling roles and then as a member of the Knockouts division... Generally stays within the rules but can brawl with the best of them... incredible devotion to fans makes her one of the sport's most accessible and loved personalities... Despite her superstar status has never forgotten her Ontario roots or fans... Favors a more mat-based style now than she did in years past but can still bust out a Hurricanrana or Tilt-a-whirl headscissors... Made headlines in 2009 by being the first TNA Knockout to pose for Playboy. (Photos were used on Playboy's online Cyber Club - not the magazine)... Confined her 2009 Ontario appearances to just one promotion - BSE PRO. That might have impacted the ranking for a lesser talent but given Brooks talent, career accomplishments and the talent depth of the BSE PRO woman's division, Traci fits logically and comfortably in the top 10... Defeated Haley Rogers at January Heatwave in a match with former WWE star Sunny acting as Special Enforcer... Teamed with fellow TNA Knockout Taylor Wilde to defeat Haley Rogers & Xandra Bale in February... Destroyed Holly Hilton on May 2nd in Timmins... Lost a high profile 3-Way match on May 9th at BSE PRO's Extreme Triple Threat event in Brampton (Versus Taylor Wilde and Xandra Bale)... Teamed with TNA star Robert Roode to face Taylor Wilde & former WWE star "Highlander" Robbie MacAllister in Port Perry at the Night of Kryme show... With Ontario star James Champagne & TNA Knockout Angelina Love lost to So Cal Val, "Au Naturelle" Kelly Couture and Xtremo in an intergender 6 person tag at BSE PRO's Wasaga Beach debut - Beach Brawl 2K9

Outlook for 2010:With her strong connection to Ontario it's safe to say if Traci Brooks continues wrestling in 2010 she will do some of it here. It's also likely that Traci will continue working for TNA in some capacity. To keep her 2009 ranking next year Brooks will need to equal her appearances and even that might not be enough to stay in the top 10 if others below her on the list ramp up their game. Improving her win/loss record significantly and/or working more promotions than just BSE PRO is necessary for Traci to climb higher on the list... not an easy task given her obligations outside the province. Another consideration when contemplating her 2010 career path is an impending marriage to TNA star Frankie Kazarian.

7: HALEY ROGERS

Also known by the name Cat Power, this Nova Scotia transplant is firmly entrenched in the Ontario scene... Trained at Can-Am by Scott D'Amore, Tyson Dux and Johnny Devine; still closely aligned with BCW but is a viable threat wherever she appears... Well deserved reputation as a very tough lady - her 2008 feud with "Girl Dynamite" Jennifer Blake which culminated in a brutal Strap Match is still talked about by PWX fans... Impressive physical strength, Rogers favors a ground based attack, leaving the high flying stuff to the smaller women... Employs a Side Russian Leg-Sweep that's actually effective... Enjoys a good old fashioned bruhaha but can also match holds with anyone... Often the "bad girl", Rogers cocky attitude sometimes costs her matches... was dominated by newcomer PJ Tyler in a feud that crossed promotional boundaries... rarely faces anyone not considered among Ontario's best and a perennial threat to any title... Started 2009 with a loss to her old nemesis Jennifer Blake at GCW's New Years Evil... Teamed with rookie Xandra Bale in a loss to TNA Knockouts Traci Brooks & Taylor Wilde in February for BSE PRO... Came out of the BCW March Breakdown Tour with a 1-2 record; trading wins with Miss Danyah and dropping a tough match to "The One and Only" Jaime D... Went 0 for 3 on the BCW Spring Loaded Tour dropping 2 matches to PJ Tyler and a controversial match in Tecumseh to Miss Danyah when she was choke-slammed by special guest referee Jaime D... Pinned again by PJ Tyler on June 6th at GCW's Anarchy in Angus 6: Kill Gill... Dropped a hard fought bout to TNA Knockout Taylor Wilde at a BCW show in Mount Forest... Teamed with Wilde the next day at Wrestlefest to defeat Miss Danyah & PJ Tyler... Her bad luck in singles matches against Tyler continued in September at a BCW event in Embro... Got a small measure of revenge on Tyler when she pinned PJ in an intergender tag at BCW's Aftershock in Tecumseh... Unable to repeat that accomplishment in their next singles bout on October 24th for RSW in Collingwood, once again coming out on the losing end Accompanied Brad "Freakin" Martin for his match against Jake O'Reilly at BCW's War Without Honor and again clashed with PJ Tyler who was in O'Reilly's corner... finished the year with a loss in a Triple Threat match at BSE PRO's Adrenaline Cup against Taylor Wilde and Kelly Couture.

Outlook for 2010: Expect Rogers to continue her feud with PJ Tyler in 2010 as Haley isn't the type of competitor not to seek vengeance and a solid win. She may try lifting Tyler's GCW WILD championship in an effort to offset 2009's dismal record against PJ... Expect to see her in high profile matches for BCW as she remains their top woman on the roster... A return to PWX (now CCW) and a run at the championship now held by Cherry Bomb would generate a lot of interest... Winning that title would definitely boost her stock which took a hit in 2009... Rogers needs to focus on some concrete goals and achieve them in order to remain in the top 10 for 2010

8: KAITLIN DIEMOND

Known as the "Anti Diva", Kaitlin Diemond eschews the glitz, glamour and overt sexuality of modern women's wrestling preferring instead to rely only on her impressive in-ring skills to impress fans... An attitude many male fans wish she would change... Diemond might be Ontario indy wrestling's best kept secret since she doesn't wrestle for the "Big 5" - BCW, BSE PRO, C*4, GCW or PWX... it isn't for lack of talent because the "Anti Diva" has skills to match up with anyone in the province... deceptively strong, Kaitlin's power offense is tough to handle... Solid ground game with a variety of submissions is complemented by by her striking abilities... Usually stays within the rules but doesn't seek approval or cheers from fans... Has little time or respect for "sports entertainers", Diemond is a no nonsense pro wrestler by choice... A choice that may have negatively impacted her marketability for some Ontario promotions but Kaitlin refuses to compromise her "Anti Diva" principles... Began 2009 with a win over Sabrina Kyle... Dominated a Triple Threat Match for IPW in Brantford against Amy Victory and Jodi D'Milo but took the pin after D'Milo powerbombed Victory on top of her giving Amy the win... Teamed with "The One and Only" Jaime D in a losing effort against Krystal Banks & She Nay Nay at TWA's annual Wrestlelusion event in St Catherines on April 26th... Teamed with Amy Victory for one match in Branford in May but the two didn't work together well and dropped the decision to Jodi D'Milo and rookie Alison Valentine... Like others, Diemond underestimated newcomer Holly Hilton and was pinned by the rookie at TWA's Wrestlelusion Revenge in Sundridge... Won a hard hitting war with Jodi D'Milo in Sherkston Shores for RWI in June... Faced Holly Hilton again at TWA's Summerbash 09 and evened the score in convincing fashion... Two weeks later Hilton returned the favor in Fort Erie to take the lead in their feud... Diemond's first intergender match of the year took place July 26th for RWI in Port Colborne - against legendary midget wrestler Farmer Pete. Diemond began the match on her knees in an effort to make things fair but but took offense to Pete's hand placement on the initial lock-up, picked him up by his head and threw him across the ring into the corner. Pete wisely smacked the referee to get himself DQ'd and escape Kaitlin's wrath... Defeated Holly Hilton on August 23rd to even their feud at 2 matches apiece... Crushed Alison Valentine is a singles bout for GWN in Brantford... Pinned Jodi D'Milo in another tough bout November 15th in Brantford... Lost to Cherry Bomb at TWA's Xmas Chaos in Fort Erie... Diemond finished the year with a win over rookie male wrestler Mikey Libre December 13th in St Catherines.

Outlook for 2010: It's likely that Kaitlin will continue to blaze her own path through the women's wrestling ranks with appearances in the states and other provinces continuing to make up a large percentage of her wrestling dates. With 3 of the 5 Ontario feds she worked in 2009 now gone or running very sporadically Diemond will need to expand into other promotions and face more Ontario talent or she risks sliding off the Top 10 in the 2010 rankings. Undeniably talented, Kaitlin needs to demonstrate that more by wrestling higher profile bouts against other high ranked Ontario women. Here's hoping promoters start using this local asset more often in 2010

9: MISS DANYAH

Sometimes billed simply as Danyah, this respected Ontario grappler remains one of the scene's most feared competitors. Trained at Squared Circle and also under Canadian legend Johnny Devine. Miss Danyah is a multiple title holder... the PWX, GCW WILD and the PWA Women's Elite 8 championships have all graced her waist at various times in her career... Also has a career as a fitness model and possesses a chiseled physique that is the envy of many women in and out of the ring... Known for her keen analytical mind as well... Occasionally acts as a manager for select male talent... Waivers between bad girl and fan favorite status... Wrestled sporadically in 2009, often staying in one promotion for just one or two matches... That hit and miss schedule and not making a serious run for any championships dropped Miss Danyah to the bottom half of the 2009 Top 10... Her skills and career achievements certainly indicate she could be ranked much higher if she'd worked a fuller or more concentrated schedule during the year... Started the year with a loss to Jennifer Blake at the high profile Oblivion show in January... Dropped two decisions to Haley Rogers in BCW during the March Breakdown Tour... Tagged with male wrestler Xtremo in loss to Jaime D & Masayuki Kono in an intergender match at the TWE Tenth Anniversary show in Thornhill... Defeated Haley Rogers May 16th in Tecumseh during the BCW Spring Loaded Tour but received a helping hand in the form of a chokeslam to Rogers from special referee Jaime D to do it... Got her second (and last) win of the year by pinning Cherry Bomb at the debut GNWA show in Keswick... Pinned by Kelly Couture on a BSE event in Markham in November... Last bout of the year was November 22nd against PJ Tyler. Match was ruled a No Contest when male wrestler Jake O'Reilly attacked both women who joined forces to kick his butt and send him packing... Later on that show joined Sebastian Suave and The Warriors in an attack on Johnny Devine, apparently sowing the seeds for a new rule-breaking faction under her direction

Outlook for 2010: If 2009 was any indication Miss Danyah will continue to confine her appearances to high profile shows in the bigger Ontario promotions but a better win/loss record would do well to ensure she still gets those coveted spots... and holds or improves her spot in the 2010 rankings. Seems poised to devote more time to managing duties with her new CWR heel faction and is likely to try and lead them into other promotions as well. With her status as a respected and talented veteran of the Ontario scene Miss Danyah will no doubt be a target for many other women looking to upgrade their ranking with a win over the "Sin City Vixen."

10: HOLLY HILTON

A graduate of the PWX Academy this young rookie had one of the most impressive first years of any Ontario newcomer in recent history... male or female... Wrestled 21 matches in 2009 (Only PJ Tyler wrestled more than Hilton)... Amassed an impressive 12-9-0 record and 2 championships while appearing in 7 different Ontario promotions... Generally loved by fans but seemed to enjoy her turns as a rule breaker... Holly won the PWX championship in her debut match January 25th in a 3-Way with defending champ Jennifer Blake and PJ Tyler... Retained the belt in a 3-Way against Blake and Tyler in Woodstock in February... Defeated Krsytal Banks in Wellend later that month to claim the FSPW title... Joined The Warriors in a 6 Person Intergender match in March, losing to Banks and the Davis Brothers... Lost to PJ Tyler in her GCW debut March 26th in Oshawa... Was scheduled to face TNA champion Awesome Kong but lost the opportunity when Kong refused to wrestle her because of Hilton's young age... Made her BSE debut in Timmins May 2nd, losing to TNA Knockout Traci Brooks... Later that month retained her PWA title over PJ Tyler by DQ... Outlook for 2010: After an impressive debut year Holly quietly announced just days prior to her December match with Jodi D'Milo that she was retiring from pro wrestling. It's expected that the FSPW title will become vacant in her absence from active competition. Fans continue to hope Holly will return to the ring in the future.

11: JENNIFER BLAKE

Trained by Cody Deaner and "Dangerboy" Derek Wylde, "Girl Dynamite" rapidly became one of the top women stars in Ontario and arguably the most popular... Not afraid to get hardcore, is famous for a bloody Street Fight with Wylde in the now defunct UWA Hardcore promotion... Has her own custom made entrance song... Started the year strong by defeating two very tough opponents - Cat Power (Haley Rogers) on Jan 8 at GCW "New Years Evil" in Oshawa and Miss Danyah the next night at the "Oblivion" OIW awards show in Toronto... Entered 2009 as PWX Champion but dropped the belt to a debuting Holly Hilton on Jan 25th in a 3-Way also featuring PJ Tyler... Teamed with flamboyant male wrestler Phil Latio to defeat Sabrina Kyle and Jessy Jones Jan 31st at FSPW's "Fight For Dominance" in Wellend... Failed to regain the PWX title in February and left the province for greener pastures... Appeared regularly for SHIMMER and made multiple appearances in Mexico... Returned briefly to Ontario Aug 9th as a surprise competitor in a 3-Way also featuring She Nay Nay and Cherry Bomb in Whitby at AWF's "Summertime Bruise" event... Wrestled outside Ontario for the remainder of the year... Had Blake wrestled a more extensive Ontario schedule she would have almost assuredly gained a Top 10 ranking.

"The One and Only" is quite likely the strongest woman wrestler in Ontario... Often a fan favorite but seems to relish being a rule breaker... Broke into the business by winning TNA's Gut Check Challenge but a knee injury halted her momentum; still wears a brace... Wrestled for TNA as Sirelda in 2006... Has held the GCW WILD and PWX titles... Toured Japan in 2007 defeating Nanae Takahashi to win the AWA Japan Women's Championship... Defeated Haley Rogers March 27th on BCW's "March Breakdown Tour" in Niagara Falls... Fought TNA Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong to a Double Count-Out in a non-title match on a PWX show in St Thomas March 28th... Pinned TNA Knockout Roxxi the next day in Tillsonburg... Teamed with "Anti Diva" Kaitlin Diemond in a loss to She Nay Nay & Krystal Banks April 26th at TWA's annual "Wrestlelusion" show in St Catherines... Teamed with male wrestler Masayuki Kono to defeat Miss Danyah & Xtremo in a high profile match at TWE's "10 Year Anniversary Mega Show" in Thornhill April 30th... Was special referee for a match between Haley Rogers and Miss Danyah May 16th in Tecumseh as part of BCW's "Spring Loaded Tour". Choke-slammed Rogers to give Miss Danyah the victory... Last Ontario appearance of the year was a tough loss to male wrestler, TNA star Kiyoshi, on May 21st in Oshawa at GCW "Battleground 3"... Went to the Cauliflower Alley Club reunion and met wrestling legend "Superstar" Billy Graham who was so impressed with her that he began guiding her career... Appeared in the independent film Rex Cairo... Jaime's sporadic Ontario appearances over 2009 are the only reason she didn't place in the Top 10... Remains one of the most feared and respected women competitors in the province.

13: AMY VICTORY

Considered by many to be 2009's most improved woman wrestler since beginning training with international star Hornet, as evidenced by her increasing repertoire of aerial maneuvers... Often accompanied to the ring by Hornet... Made history by being the first wrestler in Ontario to ride a camel to the ring... Huge contingent of loyal male fans regardless of her tactics or attitude in the ring... Opened the year by teaming with male wrestler Ron Falco in a very physical match against Krystal Banks & Mastif at PWAN's "United We Stand" event January 24th. This violent and brutal match ended in a Double Disqualification... Dropped a tough decision to Jodi D'Milo February 8th at IPW "Breakdown in Brantford"... Pinned "Anti Diva" Kaitlin Diemond to win a 3-Way also featuring Jodi D'Milo at IPW's "March Mayhem" in Brantford but was barely aware that she'd won - D'Milo powerbombed her onto Diemond... Won the PWA Prima Donna Championship by pinning Krystal Banks March 28th at "Evolution of Anarchy" in Wellend... Teamed with former rival Kaitlin Diemond in a loss to Jodi D'Milo & Alison Valentine May 24th in Brantford... Lost to PJ Tyler on a PWX show in St Thomas May 30th... Got some revenge by defeating Tyler August 15th in Tillsonburg in front of 600+ fans. This was the match Amy rode a camel to the ring... Finally gave Krystal Banks a rematch for the PWAN Prima Donna title August 29th in Wellend at "3 Faces of Evil" and lost the belt... Wins over tough competition like Diemond, Banks and Tyler prove Amy can no longer be considered a pushover or underdog... Victory didn't get a lot of exposure wrestling for only 3 Southern Ontario feds in 2009 but if she continues to improve her game she's likely to break out into other areas of the province.

14: JODI D'MILO

2009 was a breakout year for this graduate of the Figure 4 Wrestling academy... Very powerful grappler prefers a mat game... Went through a number of nicknames, finally settling on "The Work of Art"... Once wrestled Sara Del Rey... Not an overt rule breaker but hated by the majority of fans, and she couldn't care less... Couldn't overpower Deanna Conda on a January 31st CWA event... Defeated Amy Victory February 8th at IPW's "Breakdown in Brantford"... Outsmarted by Persephone Vice at PWA's February 21st "Kingston Unleashed" event... Lost a tough 3-Way match with "Anti Diva" Kaitlin Diemond and Amy Victory March 22nd in Brantford but essentially cost herself the match - was dominating the other two women in the final moments but powerbombed Victory onto Diemond giving Amy the pin... Participated in a Fairy Tale Fantasy Battle Royal May 23rd at GCW's "Super Hardcore Anime Wrestling" event in Toronto in front of 500+ fans - the match also featured international stars LuFisto and TNA Knockouts Champion Awesome Kong... Teamed with rookie Alison Valentine to defeat "Anti-Diva" Kaitlin Diemond & Amy Victory May 24th for IPW in Brantford... Dropped a hard fought PWAN match to Krystal Banks May 30th... Pinned by "Anti Diva" Kaitlin Diemond on an RWI show in Sherkston Shores June 28th... Still unable to beat Krystal Banks, losing another hard hitting bout at PWA's "Carnival Carnage IV" in Port Colborne July 18th... Ended her losing streak by crushing rookie Alison Valentine July 26 at AWA/NWX "Re-X-perienced 09" in Windham... Pinned male wrestler Mike Hart in an Intergender Match August 8th on an F4W event in Bradford... Later on that same show, was the only woman in an 8 person tag match - her team won... Enlisted the guidance of manager Jay Moore to win the vacant AWA/NWX title against Alison Valentine November 1st in Simcoe... Dropped a decision to Kaitlin Diemond on a GWN event in Brantford Nov 15th... Faced hated nemesis Krystal Banks for the vacant PWA Women's Elite Championship November 29th in Hamilton but couldn't get the win... Ended the year by handing Holly Hilton a defeat in the rookie's last wrestling match... D'Milo wrestled for 8 different feds in 2009... dominated lower tier talent but struggled against more experienced foes.

15: SABRINA KYLE

The reigning AWWL Champion (U.S.), Sabrina Kyle isn't afraid to mix it up with men in the ring with multiple appearances in intergender tags and singles bouts in 2009... Trained in the Living Legends Wrestling Academy... Started her career as Saphire but switched to her current moniker a couple years ago... Yet to break into the upper echelon of Ontario talent - not for lack of skills... Favors a tilt-a-whirl head-scissors she can unleash from numerous positions... A very effective brawler, Kyle seems to enjoy being a rule-breaker but sometimes plays the nice girl... Has an incredible number of custom made ring outfits... Often appears as a manager for male wrestlers... Defeated Portia Perez on April 18 on an EWLS show in Brooklin... Dominated her feud with rookie Alison Valentine handing the youngster some brutal beatings... Took a pounding herself from veteran Misty Haven in Kitchener May 29 at PWA's "Wrestle Craze"... Appeared as Harley Quinn at the GCW "Super Hardcore Anime Wrestling" event in Toronto... On that same event participated in the Fairy Tale Fantasy Battle Royal which also featured TNA Knockout Champion Awesome Kong and eventual winner LuFisto... Competed in the 2009 GCW WILD Tournament in a first round match against Mercy, Melisa Coates and defending WILD Champion Deanna Conda but failed to make the final... Finished the year with solid wins over male opponents Lou Crank and Phun Fer... Still looking to expand into Ontario's bigger promotions, Sabrina could be a break out star if given the opportunity

16: ADDY STARR

Formerly based in the GTA, Starr relocated to the Ottawa area and immediately made her mark... One of the smallest competitors in Ontario but absolutely fearless... Addy's early career as a hardcore wrestler solidified her reputation as one tough chick - competing mostly against male opponents in barbed-wire, thumbtack and other brutal matches... Wears her scars with pride... Started the year on a high note with wins over She Nay Nay and Misty Haven in January and February, respectively... Defeated male wrestler Claude Prest to win the UWA (Ottawa) Hardcore Championship on March 28th... Dropped a decision to Persephone Vice in April at CWA "Over The Edge" in Cornwall, igniting a feud that raged all year... Defended her UWA hardcore title against male wrestler Jeff Black May 30th in a match so violent and bloody that Ottawa city officials banned pro wrestling from all city owned venues. Starr used a metal chair to open a 3 inch gash in her opponent's head. She remains the champion but few are willing to challenge her now... Spent the remainder of the year feuding with both Misty Haven and Persephone Vice, failing to pick up a win in any of those matches - including a June match for OCW in Gananogue where she tagged with Portia Perez against Vice & Haven... Was attacked by male wrestler Rahim Ali during a 3-way match with two other men - Sexxxy Eddy and The Rush - at C*4's "Only The Best" show November 21st in Ottawa... Also appeared for Femmes Fatales in Quebec

17: KELLY COUTURE

Trained at the world famous Squared Circle academy, Kelly wrestles exclusively for BSE Pro Wrestling, but she does so against some of the most talented women on the scene... Extremely popular - unofficial fan polls rank "Au Naturelle" among the sexiest women in wrestling... Very powerful mat-based wrestler sometimes struggles against speedier high flyers... Despite wrestling for only one promotion, Couture appears in front of more fans than many of the others on this list by virtue of her position as leading lady in one of the biggest feds in the province... Teamed with male wrestler Xtremo and international star SoCal Val to defeat James Champagne and TNA Knockouts Angelina Love & Traci Brooks August 14th at "Beach Brawl 2K9" in Wasaga Beach... Defeated rookie Xandra Bale at the "Young Stars vs Pro Stars" show in Brampton August 16th... Was the only woman competitor in the Unlucky 13 Battle Royal in Brampton October 25th at "Devil's Night" - Kelly was eliminated when she was ambushed by Bale... Defeated Miss Danyah in a high profile match at "Mayhem in Markham" November 7th... Lost a 3-way match at "Adrenaline Cup 2009" in North Bay also featuring Haley Rogers and Taylor Wilde... Debuted in Japan as Amazing Kong... the reigning TNA Knockouts Champion... Kong has also held the NWA World title, the WWWA World Heavyweight Championship, the WORLD-1 Women's Championship, multiple tag titles with Aja Kong in Japan and won the ChickFight 9 Tournament... The massive Kong is one of the most feared and respected competitors in the world... A major star for the SHIMMER promotion... Brought her TNA Knockouts title belt with her to Ontario but was restricted from defending it due to TNA bylaws... Battled Jaime D to a wild double count-out on March 28th in St Thomas for PWX in a bout many fans called the best women's match they'd ever seen... Defeated PJ Tyler the next day in Tillsonburg after refusing to wrestle Holly Hilton because of the rookie's young age (Again, TNA bylaws)... Defeated LuFisto May 21st in Oshawa at GCW "Battleground 3" in what many fans called an Canadian dream match come true... Appeared in the Fairy Tale Fantasy Battle Royal May 23rd at the GCW "Super Hardcore Anime Wrestling" show in Toronto in front of 900+ fans... Obviously, Kong would be much higher in these rankings if she appeared in Ontario more often.

19: SHE NAY NAY

Trained by Dave Dalton and Rip Rogers, She Nay Nay has experience across Ontario and internationally with extensive tours of the United Kingdom under her belt... diminutive but tough, has a number of wicked Tornado DDT variations and a sweet springboard crossbody in her arsenal... not afraid to wrestle against men despite always having a size and weight disadvantage... gained a lot of seasoning in WWE developmental territory OVW in 2007... Started 2009 with a tough loss to Addy Starr January 24 at UWA "Hostile" in Ottawa... Teamed with Krystal Banks to defeat Jaime D & Kaitlin Diemond April 26th at TWA's annual "Wrestlelusion" event in St Catherines... Fought Cherry Bomb and Jennifer Blake in a 3 Way August 09th at AWF "Summertime Bruise" in Whitby... Defeated Misty Haven in a high profile match for Supershow Wrestling on August 14th in Ottawa... No hard feelings between the two as Haven interfered to help She Nay Nay defeat Sweet Cherrie the next day at CSE's "Global Warming" in Rockland... Handily defeated rookie Candy Girl on the October Supershow event in Ottawa... Teamed with male wrestler Cheeky in a loss to Sweet Cherrie & Josianne The Pussycat at CSE's "War Rock" event in November... Once wrestled in perhaps the only Candy Cane on a Pole Match ever to take place... Uses the Stiletto Killer, a big boot followed by a double leg drop to great effectiveness... Instrumental in bringing about the end of the Ontario Athletic Commission's regulation of pro wrestling... Still wrestles in some of the most dangerous hardcore matches ever seen but not as often as in her early career... Will fight anyone, male or female... Reduced Ontario schedule in 2009 is the only reason LuFisto isn't way higher in the rankings; confined her appearances to GCW... Defeated Russian powerhouse Anna Minoushka at "Final Night" February 18th in Port Perry and again two days later at "Reach For The Gold" in Lindsay... Lost a tough match to Awesome Kong at "Battleground 3" in Oshawa May 21st... Won the Fairy Tale Fantasy Battle Royal at the high profile "Super Hardcore Anime Wrestling" event in Toronto... Introduced Ontario fans to her new manager - a doll named Pegaboo - November 28th at the "WILD Showdown '09" event in Oshawa. Didn't take part in the WILD Tournament but was featured in a special Intergender Match against Phil Latio - she won.

22: DEANNA CONDA

Very strong, Deanna Conda's power is rivaled only by Jamie D... Not surprisingly she favors a mat-based offense with numerous slams and a devastating splash... 2009 saw her greatly reduce her in-ring activities but Deanna still remained a dangerous competitor on the local scene... Has a large international fan base... Started the year as the reigning GCW WILD Champion and defended that belt against PJ Tyler at "Ugandan Invasion 2" on January 10th... Defeated Jodi D'Milo at CWA's "Revenge" January 31st... Didn't wrestle again until May 23rd when she appeared as Helena Handbasket in the Fairy Tale Fantasy Battle Royal at GCW's "Super Hardcore Anime Wrestling" event in Toronto, sharing the ring with Awesome Kong, LuFisto and others... Vanished again from active competition after that show, resurfacing in November in Oshawa to defend her title in the 2009 WILD Tournament... Made it through the first round by winning a 4-Way against Melissa Coates, Sabrina Kyle and Mercy; pinning Kyle and Mercy at the same time after a double splash... Faced PJ Tyler in the tournament final and dominated most of the match but lost when Tyler countered a Boston Crab with a roll-up... With her pursuits outside the ring commanding the bulk of her attention it's unknown if Conda will have enough of a schedule to climb higher in the rankings in 2010 - if she returns at all

23: PORTIA PEREZ

Portia Perez remains one of the most traveled woman wrestlers; 2009 saw her appearing in Quebec, the U.S., France, Switzerland, Germany, Bulgaria and Romania. That, plus injuries and illness meant she didn't have a lot of time for Ontario appearances, competing in just 5 matches... That restricted schedule pushed this very talented international superstar down the rankings... as did failing to score a victory in any of those bouts... Portia's first Ontario appearance in 2009 was in Brooklyn April 18th when she lost to Sabrina Kyle... That was as close to central Ontario as she got; her remaining matches were all held in the eastern half of the province... Teamed with Addy Starr June 27th in a loss to Persephone Vice & Misty Haven at OCW "Unleashed" in Gananogue... Lost by count-out to Vice at PWA "Kingston Unleashed IV" in August - came to the ring with the PWA Women's Elite Championship belt but was not the official title holder... Faced Vice again September 26th at SWS "Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting)" in Prescott but lost by DQ when male wrestler Damian "The Pitbull" Vachon interfered on her behalf... Teamed with Vachon in a loss to Josianne The Pussycat & male wrestler Jaguar (managed by Vice) November 13th at SWS "November Reign" Prescott... Portia fared much better in her international appearances than she did in Ontario in 2009 - teaming with Nicole Matthews as The Canadian Ninjas to win the SHIMMER tag titles and alone won the ACW American Joshi Championship in Texas

24: SARA DEL REY

Sara Del Rey still holds the CWR Women's World Championship she won in a tournament in 2007 (but has never returned to defend it)... a former SHIMMER World Champion and reigning JAPW Women's champ, Sara Del Rey is widely considered one of the top 10 women wrestlers in the world... Sara ranked on this list with just 2 Ontario appearances - defeating Misty Haven in January at C*4's "Level Up" and dropping the rematch at "Crossing the Line II" in June - both of those in Ottawa... Del Rey is a regular on the Ring Of Honor roster and appears regularly in SHIMMER... Her Royal Butterfly is a feared finisher... If Sara ever makes regular Ontario appearances there's no question she would rank in or very near the top 10

25: ROXXI

Formerly known as Nikki Roxx and then Roxxi Laveaux, the "TNA Hardcore Knockout" remains one of North America's most respected woman wrestlers... trained by Slyck Wagner Brown and Steve Bradley in Killer Kowalski's famous school... Wrestled in Mexico's CMLL early in her career which undoubtedly helped her develop her legendary toughness... Has held multiple titles across the U.S.... One of the stars that helped put SHIMMER on the map... Joined TNA in 2007 and immediately made an impact as Roxxi Laveaux feuding with Traci Brooks... Later, as Roxxi teamed with Taylor Wilde in a feud against The Beautiful People that extended into 2009... Has faced just about every top female in North America... Landed in Ontario in March defeating Cherry Bomb at a PWX show in St Thomas - a match many fans called an early candidate for Women's Match of the Year... Lost to Jaime D the next day in Tillsonburg in a very hard fought battle... Like Sara Del Rey, Roxxi would rank much higher if she made more appearances in the area

27: JOSIANNE THE PUSSYCAT

Based in Quebec, Josianne The Pussycat has overcome many obstacles in the ring and backstage to emerge as one of eastern Ontario's most popular performers - whether she's breaking the rules or not... Famous (or infamous) for often wrestling in a bikini... long standing feud with Sweet Cherrie no longer consumes her, they've even tagged together... Still feels the bite of "politics" that plagued her early Ontario appearances and that has limited her to sporadic bookings... Defeated Sweet Cherrie January 3rd at CWA's "Season's Beatings 3"... Teamed with Cherrie to defeat She Nay Nay & male wrestler Cheeky November 7th at CSE "War Rock" in Rockland... Managed by Persephone Vice in an intergender tag match with Jaguar against Portia Perez & Damien "The Pitbull" Vachon at SWS "November Reign" in Prescott - Josianne & Jaguar won the match but "The Pitbull" attacked The Pussycat after the bout and destroyed her with a vicious piledriver.

28: ALISON VALENTINE

Gutsy rookie Alison Valentine is still struggling to make inroads into the Ontario ranks... Trained in the Hamilton Fight Factory under Rip Impact, Eddie Osbourne and others... Yet to wrestle in any of the big Ontario promotions... Absorbs an incredible amount of punishment but seldom strays from the rules... Destroyed by Sabrina Kyle at PAP "Unfinished Business" in Hamilton January 17th... Participated in an intergender Battle Royal in February at PWA's "All Out War 3"... Teamed with Jodi D'Milo to defeat "Anti-Diva" Kaitlin Diemond & Amy Victory May 24th in Brantford for IPW - her only victory of the year... Humbled again by Sabrina Kyle June 21st in Hamilton at "We Just Wrestle"... Pinned by Jodi D'Milo July 26th at AWA/NWX "Re-X-perienced 09" in Windham... Lost to Kaitlin Diemond on a GWN show in Brantford in October... Biggest opportunity came in November when she faced Jodi D'Milo for the vacant AWA/NWX Championship in Simcoe but couldn't score the win.

29: SWEET CHERRIE

Quebec based veteran powerhouse Sweet Cherrie only makes sporadic forays into Ontario... Had long running feud with Josianne The Pussycat but that war has cooled... Possesses a good ground game and not afraid to brawl... has a solid fan base in Ontario... wrestles for multiple Quebec promotions... Defeated by old foe Josianne The Pussycat January 3rd at CWA "Season's Beatings 3"... Faced She Nay Nay August 15th at CSE "Global Warming" in Rockland in a very competitive match - lost when Misty Haven interfered on She Nay Nay's behalf... Teamed with former enemy Josianne The Pussycat to beat She Nay Nay & male wrestler Cheeky November 7th at CSE "War Rock" in Rockland.

30: EVILYN

Graduate of the PWX Academy is one of the strangest competitors in Ontario... favors a goth look and a very nasty attitude towards fans... manages wacko male wrestler Damien Reznor and is often accompanied to the ring by him... Known to harass camels and other furry creatures... Describes her finisher as "a chain to the head"... Made her unofficial debut in August when she came from the crowd to answer an open challenge made by Cherry Bomb whose scheduled opponent didn't show. Cherry fled from the ring after Evilyn punched her in the face... Officially debuted a week later at PWX's annual Tillsonburg Fair show in an intergender Battle Royal immediately targeting the only other female, Holly Hilton... Lost her first singles bout - against Hilton September 13th in Midway... First career win came when she pinned PJ Tyler after hitting her in the head with a foreign object September 19th in Delhi... Lost to Cherry Bomb on October 2nd in Napanee... Failed to take Hilton's PWX title 2 weeks later in Tillsonburg... Ended the year with a first round loss in the GCW WILD Tournament.
